About Me

My name is Josie Grimes and I am a professional artist from the seaside town of Herne Bay in Kent, Southeast England. I specialise in pet portraits working mainly with acrylics on different substrates.

I started my art journey very young, continuing the passion into studies in Canterbury, but then decided to switch career paths into animal management to chase another dream of animal welfare. This journey stopped at the University of Reading where I was studying Zoology, and took a final switch back to my creative arts.

For the past few years I have been honing my skills into painting our gorgeous pets, specialising in acrylics and charcoal pencil sketches. My mediums started with coloured pencil and watercolours, but it has been a long time since I used these. My painting led me to discover acrylic paint which I have been using ever since, and are a personal favourite for me to use for all its advantages. 

I mainly paint pet portraits as I have such a love for our connection to our pets. There's nothing like the bond we have with our beloved animals, and it always shows in every commission I get. Above is my dog Rosie, she's such a good girl and has so much love for everyone she meets. Although she can get a little jealous if she sees her closest companions giving attention to another dog! She is a mixer, her mum is a Keeshond x Malamute and her dad is surprisingly a Sprocker Spaniel. She is a gorgeous girl, and is so dearly loved.

A pet portrait is a wonderful way to celebrate our pets. Thank you very much for looking at my website and a big thank you to all of my customers who have supported me as an artist, my small business and my dream. Without you, I couldn't do what I love.
